Lady Gaga, the intellectual Madonna

Buzzfeed, which exhaustively purports to explain the cultural references in Gaga's new video, Applause, notes that she has a degree in comparative literature.
The post is called Every cultural reference you probably didn't catch in Lady Gaga's new video. We could quibble about Buzzfeed's identification of the silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari as simply Dr. Caligari, but we can't quarrel with the omission of the Norma Desmond allusion, which we caught, and therefore was properly left out by the apparently psychic staffers at Buzzfeed.
Those who don't have a college degree may simply revel in Gaga's raucous, anarchic sense of humor, something lacking in the slew of truly terrific music videos made by Madonna in her prime, because she took/takes herself way too seriously.
